Frequently Asked Questions

What is SecurityConsumer.com?
SecurityConsumer.com is the world’s first truly interactive, detailed source of consumer information for the Access Control industry. It utilizes a wide range of technical product and company data and presents it in an easy to use, easy to compare format.

Why should I use SecurityConsumer.com?
SecurityConsumer.com does not endorse or evaluate particular products. It allows you to examine and compare Access Control Systems in an unbiased, no-pressure environment. Each product on this site was subject to the same submittal and implementation requirements, so you know that information will be consistent across systems. It offers a web-based alternative to talking with several different salespeople about several different products.

How does SecurityConsumer.com obtain its information?
All information presented on this Web site is provided by the manufacturers of access control systems in response to a set of questions that SecurityConsumer.com has created. All survey information is obtained from pre-qualified end-user and installer contacts, obtained with the cooperation of the participating manufacturers. SecurityConsumer.com does not edit or revise the content provided by manufacturers or survey participants.

What is a Virtual Facility?
A Virtual Facility is a conceptual representation of an actual commercial or business site. SecurityConsumer.com uses four Virtual Facilities, ranging in nature from a small office suite to a large, multi site business campus. Most information on this site is provided in the context of a Virtual Facility implementation. This means that Manufacturers have actually configured their products for these specific site conditions. To learn more about these Virtual Facilities, see our Virtual Facilities description page.

My site does not match the specifications for any of the Virtual Facilities. Is SecurityConsumer.com still useful to me?
We realize that your site will differ in some aspects from the Virtual Facilities used here. This is why we have provided extensive information on system capacities, flexibility, and expandability. This allows you to determine if a product is right for you even if your needs do not match those of a particular Virtual Facility.

Why can I only view submissions of the same Virtual Facility size in a comparison?
This is because of the different number of questions asked for each Virtual Facility size. SecurityConsumer.com has taken particular care in addressing the level of information that is appropriate for each Virtual Facility size. An 8 reader facility will not have to same rigorous requirements as a global, 600 reader facility. Thus we have restricted the information set for the Small Office Virtual Facility while including as much as possible for the Enterprise Facility.

Why should I register as a user of SecurityConsumer.com?
Registering as a user of this site allows us to notify you when a manufacturer has finished answering a set of questions and there is new product information on-line. As a registered user, you will not be contacted by any manufacturers unless you specifically request that they do so.
